By Heaven on Earth Mega Ministries | Word | Healing | Prophecy | Deliverance
The alarm goes off at 4:45 in the morning. The room is dark. The world is quiet. Everything in your body tells you to stay under the covers.
And yet, every morning from Monday to Saturday, something extraordinary happens at Heaven on Earth Jesus for the Whole World Mega Ministries. From 05:00 to 06:00 SAST, believers from across Johannesburg and beyond gather on Zoom for Arise and Shine, our daily morning prayer gathering. Some are in their kitchens. Some are still in bed. Some are already dressed and ready for work. But they all have one thing in common. They have made a decision to start their day in the presence of God before they start it in the presence of anything else.
This is not a coincidence. It is a conviction.
Where the Name Comes From
The name Arise and Shine comes from Isaiah 60:1, which reads: Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. This verse is prophetic, personal, and practical all at once. It is a command to rise. It is a declaration that light has already come. And it is a promise that the glory of God will cover you as you do.
Apostle JJJ, our President and Founder, understood early in his ministry that prayer is not a department of the Christian life. It is the foundation. Everything we do at Heaven on Earth flows from prayer. Our healing services, our mid-week teachings, our Sunday gatherings, our outreach, our leadership structure – all of it is built on a foundation of consistent, fervent, faith-filled prayer.
And so Arise and Shine was born. Not as a program. But as a culture.
What Happens in That Hour
For sixty minutes every morning, we do several things. We worship. We pray in agreement. We declare the Word of God over our lives, our families, our city, and our nation. We intercede for the sick, the lost, the broken, and the discouraged. We pray for our leaders, for South Africa, and for the nations of the world.
There is a principle in Scripture about the power of corporate prayer. Matthew 18:19-20 records Jesus saying, Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.
When dozens of believers gather at 5 in the morning and agree in prayer, something happens in the spiritual realm. Chains are broken. Doors are opened. Strongholds are dismantled. Not because of the hour itself, but because of the faith and the unity of the people who show up.
Why the Morning Matters
There is something significant about the morning in Scripture. David wrote in Psalm 5:3, In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. In Psalm 63:1, he wrote, You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
Jesus Himself, who was God in the flesh, made a practice of rising early to pray. Mark 1:35 records: Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. If the Son of God felt the need to begin His day in prayer, what does that say about our need?
The morning is also strategic from a practical standpoint. Before the distractions arrive. Before the notifications start. Before the demands of work, family, and life begin to pull you in every direction, you have given the first fruits of your time to God. And just like financial first fruits, there is a blessing that comes when you honor God with the first and the best.
What People Are Experiencing
Those who have made Arise and Shine a consistent part of their lives will tell you that their days are different. Not that challenges disappear. But that they approach challenges differently. There is a peace that carries through the day. A clarity in decision making. A strength in the face of difficulty that does not come from within themselves but from the God they encountered at 5 in the morning.
Some have received answers to prayers they had been waiting on for months. Some have experienced physical healing during the prayer time. Some have received clarity about relationships, business decisions, or life direction. Some have simply found that the loneliness and anxiety that used to follow them through their days has begun to lift.
Prayer works. Not because of any formula. Not because of any specific time of day. But because God is faithful to His Word and responsive to His people when they seek Him.
